Our Kennel During the Snowstorm

Zia Kennels is established by Dr. Debra Megonigle DVM, and Stephanie Mathers CVT. After decades of owning Veterinary Hospitals in both Colorado and Texas we decided to semi- retire to the place we always vacationed, New Mexico and the Land of Enchantment. In 2017 we brought our breeding kennel to New Mexico.

While attending the University of New Mexico Stephanie bred Newfoundlands in the 1970's with dogs that were imported from Newfoundland. Dr. Deb showed Bearded Collies. A dear friend of ours bred and showed Standard Poodles. Several of her dogs showed and won Westminster. Got the desire from her and jumped into the poodle business as soon as we could.

We are a boutique kennel with a plan to breed just a few litters each year.  We acquired our dogs from established great breeders that reflect their type and standard.  They have clean health records and the parents are tested.
